The client is a global provider of services to the life sciences industry, supporting pharmaceutical and healthcare organizations across the full product lifecycle. The organization serves over 670 clients, ranging from emerging biotech firms to established pharmaceutical companies, while managing complex data flows that support large-scale healthcare programs.

The client operates in this complex ecosystem, managing patient engagement data across multiple sources while supporting internal teams and external partners. As data volumes grew, the need for a structured, reliable data foundation became essential.

Business Objectives

The client aimed to move away from manual, fragmented data processes and build a data platform that could support both internal analytics and external data delivery.

Managing large volumes of patient data through spreadsheets created inefficiencies and increased the risk of errors. Reporting was delayed, limiting the ability to act on insights in a timely manner. As the number of data sources and partners increased, maintaining consistency became a challenge.

The objective was to create a centralized system that could automate data ingestion, standardize transformations, and deliver reliable, business-ready datasets. Ensuring data quality, governance, and compliance remained a priority, along with the ability to scale as new data sources and requirements emerged.

Solution

To address fragmentation and improve data reliability, Kenexai designed and implemented a centralized data platform on AWS, with Snowflake as the core data warehouse and DBT for transformation workflows. The focus was to automate data flows, standardize transformations, and enable secure data delivery across internal and external systems.

Data ingestion was automated using a near real-time replication approach, ensuring that updates from source systems were continuously captured and made available for processing.

A layered data architecture was implemented to bring structure and consistency across the platform:

The overall architecture was designed to scale, allowing the platform to accommodate new data sources, increasing data volumes, and evolving business requirements without structural changes.
