The client, a leading e-commerce retailer in the USA, wanted to streamline and enhance their operations by automating the detection of clothing items and accurately identifying their colors. Traditionally, manually categorizing colors in a large inventory was time-consuming and prone to human error.
There was a need for a faster, more precise solution to improve inventory management and optimize the supply chain. The apparel industry also requires real-time insights into color trends and stock availability, but existing systems cannot provide instant and accurate color information.
The primary goal of this project was to develop a robust system that could automatically detect clothing items in images and extract their colors efficiently and accurately, enabling better operational decisions and improving the overall customer experience.
Solution
The solution leveraged computer vision and deep learning algorithms to surpass the limitations of traditional manual methods. State-of-the-art techniques were implemented to accurately identify clothing items within images, even when items were overlapping or closely positioned.
Once detected, precise cropping was performed around each clothing item using advanced algorithms. This isolated the items from the background, producing clean, ready-to-analyze images. The approach ensured that only relevant portions of the image were retained for further processing.
The system also automatically extracted color information from the cropped items, generating color palettes that could be used for inventory management, trend analysis, and marketing insights.
